Do you guys think Manu is a HOFer?

Manu Ginobili announced his retirement today and me and my friend had an argument if he's Hall of Famer or not.

He was a 2 time All star, a core member of a team that won 4 championships and one of the best sixth mans to ever play.(plus his number will be hanging on the rafters)

His best season he averaged
19.5 ppg, 4.5 ast and 4.8 rebs on 46 percent shooting.
For his career he averaged
13.3 ppg, 3.5 reb, 3.8 ast. on 44.7 percent shooting
Career Per 36
18.8 ppg, 5.0 reb, 5.4 ast
basketball-reference estimates his chances of going in is 20 percent.

My opinion is that he is not a first ballot HOFer, but he will get there eventually.

100% he will be! if not as an "NBA" player, certainly as an "international" candidate
NBA champion, olympic gold medalist, euroleague champion..
not a fan of the spurs.. but Mano is an all round champion

He probably will get in eventually but I don't think anything outside of the NBA should count because all those other leagues are mediocre compared to the NBA I have the same thought as you not 1st ballot but eventually will get in I don't think a 6th man should be treated as a starter wether they chose to be a 6th man or not because true HoFers prove they need to be on the court as much as possible

First ballot HOFer.. would be surprised if not.. I guess it depends on who are with him that year...
He is held in high regard among his peers..
Me and stewie had our own argument back in gg..lol
Like others have said.. his non NBA achievements should easily get him there

Yes, it's called the Naismith Memorial Basketball hall of fame, not NBA hall of fame. Manu's international achievements are more than enough to get in.

Looking at his awards and achievements in Europe, I just realized that he is one of the best players to play Europe. Plus the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame is fairly easy to get in to compared to other sports so he could be a first ballot, I guess.

And that's the problem trash leagues get credit for stuff they shouldn't it's like getting into the baseball hall of fame for your achievements in the minors weaker leagues should not count

an olympic GOLD medal is weak??
world championship silver is weak??
they were playing ALLSTAR (i refuse to call them dream teams, there was only ONE, 1992) NBA usa teams and the Argies were good, and this is mostly due to Manu
a euroleague title is weak?
ok ok back in the day, euroleague wasnt that great... but still a title and mvp
not talking about 16! 16 yrs in the NBA, with 4!! titles

I think spurs players are never going to get the credit they deserve for sacrificing for the team.. Duncan is never going to get the credit Kobe gets even though he has all the accomplishments..

Yes a world championship silver is weak

So is any league title for any league that isn't the NBA because the competition level is not even close

The year they won good was one of the weakest rosters in US history because it was a very young team and they couldn't even beat Puerto Rico when they lost by 19 and that isn't even close to a place known for basketball

And it's not like Manu put up insane numbers in the Euroleague they were good but not amazing numbers as he only averaged 20.6 PPG in only 3 seasons against weak competition and had a .488/.360./.733 FG/3PT/FT shooting split while only averaging 4 RPG and 2.4 APG so his only other stat that popped out was his 3.2 SPG people act like he dominated the league when in reality he was good there but want putting up top notch NBA numbers there in a much weaker league

Oh gets called the best PF of all time he's gets his credit he carried the team as did Robinson but Manu didn't they are not of the same importance there was never a season where Manu was the best player on his NBA team because Duncan and Kawhi took that honor by a mile

the nba is a "spectacle" a show.. WC, olympics + euro basket is real basketball, the team game..

i will respectfully disagree with you stewie.. there is basketball life outside the US ;)

Ya I agree.. I was comparing Duncan and Kobe.. Kobe will always be more famous as Duncan played lesser minutes in the latter half of his career so that the team did well.. whereas Kobe didn't.. and just to make it a clear I'm a huge Kobe fan . But Duncan's selfless nature and efficiency towards the end won me over

Kobe gets too much credit imo but that's besides the point
